SIGNS OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS
Chemical reactions occur when substances undergo chemical changes into new substances. As you have studied chemical reaction equations you have seen that the atoms in the reactants are rearranged to create new products. There are many signs that a chemical reaction has occured or is occuring. To the left are some farmilar actions you have probably witnessed substances going through. Reactions that release energy are called EXOTHERMIC and reactions that absorb energy are called ENDOTHERMIC.

We will be conducting an Inquiry lab in class to witness an endothermic and exothermic reaction. From your data you will need to determine Which reaction is Endothermic and which reaction is exothermic. Visit the following website and determine what data you will need to collect during this lab.
Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions
Task#3
Using the information you discovered from the Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions link, create a data table in your science notebook to record the information you believe you will need to collect in order to determine whether a reaction was Endothermic or Exothermic.
Next visit Chemicool: Chemical Reactions read through the webpage. Answer the 5 questions on your Task #3 Worksheet. Also write a 1x5 paragraph describing signs that would indicate a chemical reaction was or is occuring. This paragraph can be wirtten on the space provided on the Task #3 Worksheet.
